VEEDERSBURG, Ind. (CNS ) -- Mrs. Vada Smith, 93, a resident of Veedersburg most of her life, died at 1:45 p.m. yesterday (Jan. 10, 1969) at the Tall Trees Nursing Home in Covington. She had been a patient there since October. Prior to entering the nursing home, she had resided with a daughter, Mrs. Phynus Merryman, in Covington. Born Sept. 13, 1876, near Wallace, she was the daughter of Mordecai and Dora Minor Harper. She was married Dec. 26, 1896, to Albert Smith, who died April 1, 1963. Mrs. Smith was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Veedersburg and women's organizations of the church. Survivors include her daughter, Mrs. Merryman; two sons, Everett of Lapel and Roy of Veedersburg; two sisters, Mrs. Lettie Cox of Veedersburg and Mrs. Bertha Slusser of Danville; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. The body is at the Fishero Funeral Home. Arrangements are incomplete.   --typed by Walt W

Ivan Steed officiating. Burial will be in Rockfield Cemetery. Friends will be received at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Sunday.   --typed by Walt W

Veedersburg – Mrs. Vada Harper Smith, age 92, mother of Mrs. Paul (Phynius) Merryman of 615 Sixth St, Covington died at 1:15 p.m. Friday Jan 10 at the Tall Trees Nursing Home in Covington where she had been since October. She had been in failing health for the past several years.  Mrs. Smith was born near Wallace Sept 13, 1876 the daughter of Mordecai and Dora Minor Harper. She married Albert Smith Dec 26, 1896 and he preceded her in death April 1, 1963.  She spent most of her life in Veedersburg and was a member of the First United Methodist Church and its Women’s Guild. Surviving are her daughter, Mrs. Merryman of Covington; two sons, Everett of Lapel and Roy of Veedersburg; two sisters, Mrs. Lettie Cox of Veedersburg and Mrs. Bertha Slusser of Danville, Ill; 7 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at Fishero Funeral Home here. The Rev. Ivan Steed officiated and burial was in Rockfield Cemetery southeast of Veedersburg.
